Back Volunteered as a executive for an organization
I'm a member of the Rocky Mountain Book Award Committee, an Alberta-wide reader's choice award for children based here in Lethbridge. Between Dec and May, I'll read 70-80 new Canadian books for grades 4-7 students to select the shortlist. Many schools and libraries in the province--and Lethbridge!--will sign up to participate, and the kids will pick the winner.
Joined the organizing committee for Pridefest 2016
Gave my guitar (that I haven't been playing very much lately anyway) to a young person who was just getting started in his school's music program - he's playing like crazy and loving it! Word has it, he'll be doing a solo soon at the school's concert. :)
Went to Edmonton to advocate to the provincial cabinet ministers for funding for projects that will benefit our city. ( Feb 2 and 3 )
In early December, I led the Christmas tree lighting at Lethbridge city hall by also kicking off the campaign to donate food and toys to the food banks. Its important to inspire others by leading by example. My December mayor's column was also focussed on the importance of giving and caring for others.
