In early December, I led the Christmas tree lighting at Lethbridge city hall by also kicking off the campaign to donate food and toys to the food banks. Its important to inspire others by leading by example. My December mayor's column was also focussed on the importance of giving and caring for others.

Today an amazing group of students from U of L presented an afternoon of opera. All proceeds from the performance are going to support some Syrian families arriving in Lethbridge shortly. All performers need an appreciative audience and I was pleased to be there today and applaud the talent of these artists.

Through the UofL's Faculty of Management, we befriend a number of exchange students each semester. They don't live with us but we take them to see typical Canadian culture - hockey games, events in the community, etc. We will be attending the Pow Wow at the ENMAX Centre coming up on the Feb 20th weekend. This gives them a taste of Canadiana, but it is also a chance for us to learn from them.
